Someone said, it's like a sponge.

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Proverbs 4:23 NIV

Someone said, it's like a sponge.

You won't know what flows out from it unless you squeeze it.

The point is we need to be very conscience about what we fill our hearts with.

We need to be present in our thinking, the thoughts that pass through our minds aren't always positive and this too should be taken captive and brought under God's dominion, through prayer.

So how do we guard our hearts?....we can't do it on our own, atleast not effectively, we could try but only Jesus truly can.

We need to allow the Holy Spirit to speak to us throughout our daily lives, we need to seek His guidance in prayer and in His Word. Even in every decision we make.

David says it in his Psalms, 'oh Lord, search out my heart'. There's so much more to this verse. Practically;

  • We gotta be willing to be open and vulnerable with our Lord Jesus in prayer.

  • We need bear our hearts out to him.

  • We need to be willing to face whatever it is that He reveals to us.

  • We need to be dependent on His love, kindness, strength,etc to persevere.

  • We need to live according to His will not ours.

We need to be present in all we do. God's protection and guidance is always there. We as people need to do our part. Being watchful about the environments we find ourselves. We can't ask God to keep us from temptation but then walk voluntarily into the rooms of temptation.

💡want to stop using perverted language? Pay attention to the music you listen to and the shows you watch. Start somewhere.

In all of this, circumstances will always makes us feel some kind of way. However, as children of God we should do our part, holding fast in His promises for us and remembering that He is the Promise.

When Jesus is truly in your heart, only love flows through what we speak and do.
