Dear child of God,
Welcome to day 3 of our 7 Day Challenge to reconnect with God.
Today, we'll touch on Reading the Word of God.
Mini Teaching:
As a Christian, you cannot neglect the Word of God. Because it is God Himself speaking to you. So, if you are someone dealing with not hearing the voice of God, chances are your Bible has been closed for a while now.
When it comes to the word of God, people only think you can read it but there are other ways you can engage with the word of God during your day.
1. You read the Word.
This is you picking up your Bible and reading it for yourself. Most of us know some Bible verses but we've never read it for ourselves because we hear them in sermons and when people post on social media. I will highly encourage you to buy a physical Bible so you can have that at home. Your Bible on your phone can come in handy when you're maybe traveling or in the bus.
2. You meditate and study the Word.
This is where you take a verse and dissect it. You find cross-references and the definitions of the Greek or Hebrews words. You read that verse in other translations so you can understand them in more detail. Studying the word helps you break down and understand what God is trying to say in just a verse.
3. You listen to the Word.
We often times neglect this aspect because we feel like if we listen then we may not fully remember it. But you need to remember that, even if you are distracted while you're listening, your spirit man is listening, even in your sleep. So, you can also listen to the word of God while you're on the bus, while you're doing the dishes, etc. It will build your faith because faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God. (Romans 10:17)
4. You speak the Word.
This is when you can memorize Bible verses and write them down so you can speak/declare them over your life. This part is so important because you need to work the word of God in your life. You need to prophesy it over your life. It's not just about reading the word but the word needs to become active in your life.
"If it is in the Word, then it can be in your world"
Bible verses to meditate on:
"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read [and meditate on it] day and night, so that you may be careful to do [everything] in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful." - Joshua 1:8
This verse reminds us that reading your Bible shouldn't be a once in a week kind of thing. It should be an everyday kind of thing. It should be a part of your routine. It should be a priority because God has so much to tell you, but you can't access it until you open His Word.
Journal prompts:
1. When was the last time you read your Bible? What stopped you from reading your Bible today?
2. Do you find it hard to read your Bible? Is it because you don't understand, or you don't know where to start? Tell God how you feel.
Practical Action to take:
From our mini teaching, I gave you 4 ways you can engage the word of God: listening, hearing, speaking and meditating/studying it. Try incorporating these in your daily routine. While you're working and if you have the means to put on wireless earphones, then listen to the word. On your breaks you can read your Bible. And if you do not know where to start reading in the Bible, I will encourage you to start from the first page (Genesis) and read along.
But for more specific needs, you can start here:
- If you want to study the life of Jesus: read the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John)
💙 John: Teaches you who Jesus is.
💙 Mark: Teaches you what Jesus did.
💙 Matthew: Teaches you what Jesus said.
💙 Luke: Teaches you what Jesus felt.
- To know how to live like a Christian and to know your identity in Christ: Read the epistles (Ephesians, Romans, Corinthians)
- To grow in wisdom: Study Proverbs
- To understand the meaning of life: Study Ecclesiastes
- To know powerful prayers and declarations over your life: Read Psalms
Assignment for the day:
💌 Make sure that before you sleep today you read God's Word. At night, you can read a psalm and meditate on it and declare it over your life. Make reading the word a routine and a habit in your life.
Let's pray
Dear God, I thank You for this day. Thank You Lord for showing me mercy. Lord, as I keep growing in knowing You, Lord please empower me to seek You more. Lord, help me to be disciplined.
Holy Spirit, open my mind to understand as I read the Word. Open my eyes to see the revelation of Christ. May I leave my secret place filled with knowledge of God and with the understanding of who I am in Christ.
Thank You Jesus for loving me so much.
In Jesus Mighty name I have prayed, amen!
PS: Always remember to ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand the scriptures before you read. You cannot understand the Bible without the help of the Holy Spirit so rely on him. Ask God questions when you don't understand. Even if God doesn't answer immediately, He will answer along the way. Don't give up even on days you don't understand. Push through.
I hope this blessed you.
Please feel free to reply to let me know if this blessed you or if you have any questions. See you tomorrow for day 4.
God bless you!
I love you, but God loves you more.
Your sister in Christ,
Sammy J
